Baby hats

I bought a copy of Nicky Epsteins book 'Knitting on the edge' and have since been inspired to knit hats using some of her wonderful edgings. In fact, just one of the edgings led to these hats and a baby sweater. A simple bobble  and garter stitch edge.

I'm writing up the pattern for this hat and hope to post it here in the next week.

It's made of sock wool leftovers, all self-striping. I think the bobbles and tassles make it look very sweet!

Maybe I'll try how it looks in heavier yarn, and make one for Rosalie too.

Joining the millions

Today I have joined the millions (probably more) of people who write, show and share what moves through a blog. My Rosabellablog is a fact! I'll be writing about knitting and other crafts and life with growing children. I'd like to share pictures, stories and patterns.

Another reason for wanting to write this blog is that my youngest daughter (she's fourteen months old) has Prader-Willi Syndrome. This is a rare genetic disorder causing, amoung other things, low muscle tone, developmental delays, an eating disorder (or I should say 'obsession' I guess) and behavioural problems. But that's the kind of description you get from medical professionals. I would like to write about what this disorder means for us as a family and what it means for my daughter who has to live with it every day.

There is an international Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS for short) organization (IPWSO) which has a website and a blog. I enjoy reading their blog, particularly the stories about how children and their parents deal with PWS. These stories are helping me, as a mother of a baby with PWS, to gradually learn what this syndrome might mean for my daughter. So, on my own blog I would also like to share stories like these and maybe other parents will, like me, find some support in them.

Ending this first message, and I hope to post something here at least weekly, I would like to introduce my family.

This picture was taken last summer (2010) shortly after we could finally take baby Isabel home from the hospital. On the left there's me and Isabel, on the right is my other wonderful daughter Rosalie and my husband Roelof.
